Nursery-Labor of Love: Part 6

Hello everyone!  We are so sorry for the delay in getting our next blog post written up on the nursery project.  If you need a refresher on where we were at in our project please go back and read our "Labor of Love" series.  This is our 6th post on our project.  We have had so much fun working on this over the past months!  The reason we were delayed on posting additional projects is because we had some projects to finish before we could write about them.  As most of you know, I was on restricted bed rest for 3 weeks and last week I was put on a modified version of that bed rest so I was able to sit up and walk around a little allowing Michael and I to finish some things that we had to put on the back burner.

Today I would like to show you a part of our project that we decided to enlist the help of a friend for.  It is the mural we had painted on the wall in the baby's room.  I used to paint (and really enjoyed it) but I have not done it in years so I have really lost my touch.  I have the ability to think of and create ideas but I just can't make them happen on a canvas anymore (or on a wall in our case).  It is really true that if you don't use a talent you have, you do lose it over time.  Michael thought about attempting the painting/mural we had dreamed up, but we both decided this would cause more of a headache for both of us to attempt so we called on our friend April who is an incredibly talented artist (seriously!).

April is a Senior Graphic Designer for a company here in Des Moines and literally has one of the most artistic minds I have ever met.  We were so thankful for her willingness to help us out!

As you all know, we have a gray, white, and mustard yellow theme going on in the nursery.  We wanted a tree painted on the wall in the nursery (which would be behind the crib) that was very simple.....painted only with white paint.....no leaves......and nothing too whimsical (as this comes across too girlie).  We liked the idea of the tree having a more 'textury' feel then a whimsical look.  We envisioned the tree looking something like a tree does in the fall right after all the leaves fall off.  We felt this look would compliment our 'shabby chic' appeal and would really pop on the wall even though the concept is simple.

Below are the progression pics of this all coming together....

This is exactly what we were hoping for and we are so grateful to April for being so talented and helpful! :)

It is amazing to me how much this made the room pop!  We just love it (and the birdies) :)!
