Nursery-A Labor of Love: Part 1

This series of blogs is going to focus on all the fun we have been having in our nursery preparation and all our projects that have been months in the making.  For those who know Michael and I best, you know that we really enjoy doing home projects together.  We have fun thinking up ideas and coming up with ideas to make our projects happen for little to no money if possible (unless we are building furniture).  For Michael, no idea is to big (I'm always the first one to think we can't make something happen).  There have been times I have come up with ideas I didn't think were possible and Michael almost always comes up with a way to make it happen.  He is so creative and talented one of the many reasons I love him.

We always knew that we wanted our first baby's sex to be a surprise when we decided to start our family.  We also knew that the creation of the nursery was going to be a really fun project that we wanted to take on together.  We have tried to do as much of the work/projects as possible by ourselves.  One of the biggest things we wanted to do was hand make as many things in the nursery as possible and bring things into the nursery that we literally made out of what some people would consider 'trash' in some instances.  Don't worry, everything we have made is kids friendly, LOL. :)

This blog series will show you the steps we are going through to create the style we are after.  We wanted a nursery that didn't scream boy or girl but had an overall vintage feel.  Now that things are coming together we would describe the look as 'shabby chic' and we really love it as we have poured a lot of time and energy into the details and personalizing things for our sweet baby.

As many of you know.  I was put on bed rest last week.  It looks like this will last approximately 5 weeks.  This has panicked me a little because our nursery is not completely done and some of the projects I was working on have not been completed. Because of this,  I wanted to take time over the next weeks and document all the fun we have had putting it together since I can't work on projects right now.  We hope you enjoy reading about our adventures in designing our baby's nursery :).

Here is the room before we started painting which was the first step we took at transforming the room.  This room is actually very small so we have worked on maximizing the space as much as possible.
Michael is getting excited fueling up on Coke as we start our project that will take us many more months to complete.
Taping is done and we are ready for COLOR!

We decided to paint our walls what we call "Elephant Gray'.   There is something about gray that can be both feminine and masculine at the same time which is why we choose this as our wall color.  Again, we really didn't want this room to feel strongly boy or girl as we want to use it for future children.  You will hear more about our color scheme in future posts but I can tell you our accent colors are a mustard yellow and white.  In the mean time, below are some pictures of Michael painting away.  He is so great!

We are really happy with the how the color turned out and how the white trim boards set it off.  Can't wait to show you the next step in the process soon!  Stay tuned :).
